From Field Assessment to Commissioning: LEO Smart Water Solutions for Rural Thailand
2026.09.01
Reliable rural water begins with understanding the source. In some rural areas, iron and manganese in groundwater can affect safe water access. Dispersed communities also need treatment systems that are practical to deploy, monitor and maintain for the long term.
These priorities shaped LEO's work with Thailand's Department of Groundwater Resources (DGR). Technical exchange and field assessment led to a localized smart water solution, and the first demonstration project under the initiative has now reached commissioning.
Following technical exchanges with DGR in January 2026, LEO conducted field assessments across Thailand's 77 provinces. Because water conditions and operating environments vary by location, assessment—not assumption—guided the solution.

LEO translated those insights into a smart water solution tailored to local conditions. In July 2026, the first rural water improvement demonstration project under the initiative completed equipment installation and entered commissioning.
The LEO Integrated Smart Water Station combines oxidation, filtration and disinfection in one coordinated treatment train. The process is designed to address complex water-quality challenges, including high iron and manganese levels.

Built for practical deployment. The compact, factory-prefabricated design brings the core treatment equipment together before it reaches the site, simplifying onsite integration for rural projects.
Built for operational visibility. IoT monitoring gives operators a clearer view of system status, while automatic control reduces reliance on continuous manual adjustment—an important advantage when communities and technical support resources are dispersed.
The filtration stage uses LEO's silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic membrane technology. Designed for high flux and high porosity, the inorganic membranes also resist corrosion and fouling.
For rural water operators, these characteristics can help reduce frequent maintenance intervention, support longer service intervals and limit the operating costs associated with repeated service visits.
Commissioning brings the treatment sequence, monitoring functions and automatic controls together under actual site conditions. It also aligns operating procedures with the installed system before long-term operation begins.
The localized solution is now installed and being prepared for ongoing operation.
Further discussions in Shanghai explored Phase II planning, operational support, project expansion and broader water infrastructure opportunities. The discussions set the direction from initial implementation toward long-term operation and scalable application.
For rural water authorities and engineering partners, the case demonstrates LEO's ability to connect field assessment, localized treatment design, integrated equipment and digital operation—from early technical dialogue through onsite implementation.
Building a More Reliable Rural Water Supply?
Reliable water systems grow from shared understanding, practical technology and sustained cooperation. Partner with LEO to turn local water conditions and long-term operating needs into a smart water solution designed around the communities it serves.
